  • front wheel

    ok i know i have alot of questions the last couple of days but i am on a mission. so with that said my question is this: my front alignment seems to be off just a tad.. is it as simple as like you use to do when you little to you bikes, as in loosen center screw on the bars and staighten wheel and to match bars, or is there more to it?

    i hope this makes sense .

    Gary;
    The easy way to get the front wheel strait is as follows;
    loosen up the Axle pinch nuts, lower and upper clamp bolts. You should only back them off about 1/2 to 1 turn, as you don't need to take anything apart.
    Make sure the front axle is tight. set too the specs in the book.
    wiggle the bars just a little bit, to verify that nothing is binding.
    starting at the bottom, retighten all the nuts.
    If you have a fork brace, don't forget too loosen the bolts on it as well.
    I would also check the rear axle. Loosen the pinch bolts, retourque the axle nut, then tighten the pinch bolts.

      great advise. but let me revise to make more sense. if you are sitting on the bike holding the bars when wheel is perfectly straight bars are cocked to the left just a tad. i need to match my bars whith the wheel. would this process work as detailed above or am i just stupid>

        are you sure that is the wheel alignment and not that the handlebars are bent just a little.... been there done that and have had to kick my own butt for forgetting the basics...

          it is possible that they might be bent a little but after the wreck no damage was done to front or top of bike. so yes it is possible but if not bent and just got moved over a bit "like when you wreck a bycycle" how can i move them back

            if I remember right just after I got my beastie on the road I had to get a set of handle bars... and then after a short trip in a ditch last fall, ended up having to get another set... I know they're not weighted like the stockers, but I get mine for like 20-30 dollars from JC Whitney... I am running their midlength high-bars with somthing like 8" of rise and 10" of sweep-back and I think around 31" of overall width...

              loosen up the clamp in the center of the handle bars and I have gotten pretty good at eyeballing the center point... hopefully your bars have the crosshatching in the two clamp areas and you just have to work it sideways until you get them centered back up in the clamps... are you following all of this???
