gas cap grommet

Anybody have or know where I might get the rubber grommet thing that makes the seal on the gas cap of a special. Just noticed mine's pretty brittle and cracked. Don't think its's available from Yamaha .Thanks!

Someone claimed to have found one at a plumbing supply store that would work. Not sure what size or thickness tho, you will have to measure. If you can't find the right thickness, maybe you can double up with some thinner ones.

It's not available anymore...but a large "O" ring will do the trick...go to your local hardware store and get one that just fits around the cap undersides...a nice fat one...standard black rubber will tolerate the gas...

I haven't looked into it (yet) but I heard that www.mikesxs.com (XS650 specialist) has them for the 650's and that they are the same as the 1100. Don't tell them it's for an 1100 as they wil say it won't work.
I don't know if this is true but I might try $5-6 or whatever to try it.

Just checked Mike's XS. They have 2 different seals. Looks like XS#20-0036 $4 might work? Can't quite tell. Sure wish there was a site like that devoted to XSives.

Hey Dean,

The seal for the 76-84 caps is the correct one, would be the same as their replacement gas cap for same year of specials, they also fit the XS11 specials, so if yours is rusty, you can replace it with that same cap! I've got one to fix the seal on Basket Case's cap, just haven't replaced it yet! Regrettably, MikesXS requires minimal order of $35.00 for free shipping, so best to find other parts to order as well!
