  • Rechroming Forks

The uppers on my XJ are so rusted that I need to do 1 of 2 things.

    1. Order new ones from Forking by Frank

    2. Send them off to a motorcycle specialty shop to be stripped and rechromed.

It was mentioned on another group that there could be a chance that, after they are stripped and surfaced that the seals might not fit as well since its possbile the circumfrance of the forks might be off.

But then I think that, even with a company as reputable as FBF that they probably dont have new ones but old ones that have been refurbished like new.

    Any thoughts on this?

    Thanks

    Jack

FBF are NEW, NOT refurbished old ones. They run about $200 for our bikes. I bought a set, and was very pleased with them.

              Hey JackSF,

Forks by Frank provide quality NEW products, and custom made.
I got my 4" over uppers for Godzilla 4 years ago, bolted and fit right in, no seal leaks for 4 years and still look great!

From the pricing I've heard about in trying to rechrome, it's probably the better investment to go all new! Good Luck!

Exactly what I did. No worries that way and the 'ol girl will be strutting her new chrome soon.

                Thanks All.

Back when I was having this problem I talked to a chrome shop in Vancouver, WA and I think the guy that ran the shop said it would run about $75 per leg to rechrome them. He also sounded like he knew bikes and had done many forks before.

I lucked out and got a parts bike that had a set of good tubes on it.

Sorry, I don't remember the name of the shop but there can't be all that many platers in Vancouver...
