    Model years - 1984?

    OK this is my first post here and I hope it's the proper place for it. If not I do apologize.

    I found a guy offering a 1984 Maxim 1100, which I assume is an XJ. It has 7700km (4800mi). He says he is the second owner, having bought it in 1994 with 2500km on it. It was stored in a heated basement prior to his ownership, and in his attached garage since then.

    Price is $2800 obo CDN ($2227USD). From his photos it's very nice looking with all original parts and finishes. There's little oxidation for example, and the downpipes are shiny and without rust.

        that is a horrible looking bike. I would not do a thing with it. Give me the guys address and I will go deal with it myself!!! Ha ha. Seriously; looks good to me.

          How can you live with youself, Boy what a rip off. $2800.00.....
          That things got to be worth at least a penny more. He.He.He.He.
          Not a bad lookin bike man. If it runs as good as it looks, I wouldn't hesetate. Of course I'd try and talk him down to mabee $2500.00, But would give him what he's asking. If it has been sitting awhile, you'll still need to do the standard pulling of the carbs and cleaning them as well as check the bike out FULLY before putting her back into fulltime use.

            Man what people won't do to sell something. I think you should give me his #, or email addy. I can't believe he's trying to screw you like this. To take advantage of some unsuspecting novas like yourself. I'd be on him like white on rice, I'd chew him up and spit him out and make him feel like a Hardly Drivable rider for trying to take advantage of you like this (just before I gave him the money and ran). Everybody knows these bikes do not belong in a heated basement or some wussy attached garage, they are meant to be ridden and ridden hard. Although it does look like the carbs have seeped some, you can see the varnish in the pics. If you would like, if you just have to buy it you could send it to me to work on and test ride for you, I would think 20,000 mile shake down should work all the kinks out. I figure you would have it back in about 3 years. I would not charge you for this, nor would I charge for storage but that's just the kind of guy I am.

            All kidding aside welcome, and do try to get him down some but it is a fair price. It will make you feel better.
            There's always a way, figure it out.

              That looks about like the XJ1100 (Zilla) I bought in September. Mine had 5800 miles when I got it from the original owner.

              Initially I felt like I paid a premium at $2500 but it was one of a kind in my mind. I've only seen two others that were in as good of shape one of them is the one you're looking at.

              You might want to verify that the seller is truly the second owner...if possible. In my case the lady I bought it from had the original title so I knew she was the first and only owner.

              The short of it is I am VERY pleased with this bike. I felt like I got a "new" 1100 for $2500...and I did. And I would do it again.

              As a matter of fact I am currently looking for a 1981 XS11 Special in the same condition...and I will pay a premium for it when I find. But that doesn't metter to me since I am now convinced these bike are some of the best EVER built.

              BUY IT! NOW! Before someone else finds it.

                Hey did I just walk into a Seinfeld episode? What a buncha clowns!

                So I guess that's a few votes that it seems to be a good deal. What I was wondering about as well is the year. There seems to be a shortage of info about the 84 XJ1100. A local guy here who has one says that indeed there aren't many around.

                I have an XJ750X now but it's not in great shape and a bit small for two up on highway trips for my liking now as a "mature" guy.

                  Update - I have decided not to buy the bike. Other priorities exists - I'm sure you all know the drill.

                  It's still for sale, in Quispamsis, New Brunswick Canada. This is near Saint John. The guy's email is spmmenow AT hotmail.com (name = Hubert).

                  He had someones else looking at it but no offers as of June 14.
