  • Manifold V Oil Line Problem

    I put Jardine 4 into 2's on my bike last night and got all but one of the points where the oil lines are close to the new down pipes. It's about three mm from the line and I noticed that the line is slightly melting.

    I thought about wrapping the line with alum. cut from a can where it's close to the manifold. Do you folks have a better idea for me???

    .. i didnt have an oil cooler on the bike that had that style exhaust so im having trouble seeing your problem in my head
    .. but i would consider using the asbestos looking stuff that they use to wrap headers with, either around that section of oil hose or that section of exhaust pipe .. the aluminum would help to keep the hose from burning but it will still transfer heat to the hose
    3 mm is pretty close

      The Jardine pipes cross the front part of the frame instead of running straight down. 1 and 4 go out the right side of the bike when sitting on the bike and 2 and 3 go out the left.

      The stock oil cooler lines run down the front bars of the frame so they are in close proximity to the pipes instead of running parrelel to them like the stock mufflers.

      I'm having the problem on 1, it's too close where the pipe runs across the oil line.

      The pipe and lines only cross in a couple of places on 1 and 4. The 4 crossing is about 15-20mm away because of the thickness of the pipes.

        On one of my tractors there is some tape that looks like a space blanket on a thin sheet of foam. It protects the plastic parts around the tractor manifold. I was hoping I could find something close to that for the bike.

          I think I would take out the oil cooler. You don't really need it anyways.

            Don;
            You can get the wrap at most good auto parts stores. I would wrap the oil lines from the filter/adapter up above the exhaust pipes. The stuff I know about will keep the lines in good condition. You do not want to wrap the exhaust pipe, as it will hold in the heat, and transfer it down low. That would tend to heat up the footpegs and lower engine.

                Thanks for the suggestions gents! I'll try the wrap first and if that doesn't work simply remove the oil cooler.

                I think Pat has a cooler with smaller lines than mine.

                BTW, just got back from East TN with a 81 Midnight Special with 2nd gear issues. I'm looking forward to fixing that bike. They are fine looking rides!!
