  • 1981 xs1100 special exhaust rusting

    Hello
Any ideas on how to clean up a rusty exhaust on an 81 xs1100,. Its Chrome/Aluminum(one or the other) now and would like to keep it the same.

If it's just minor pitting and surface rust you can use Navel Jelly, sold at most auto parts stores. If it's serious rust, don't think there's much you can do about it. Some people have used ceramic coating on their exhausts... I've only seen one. Not perfect, but I guess it's better then the rust.

I think Dupont No. Seven Chrome polish is the best, but it's getting harder to find.

I've heard Coca Cola works great too!

I've been using something called "Mother's." It was suggested to me by the motorcycle salvage place I have been frequenting and by the head mechanic at the shop I work at. It works great and you can get it at Wal-Mart. Or any of the automotive stores.
