  • Stripped oil drain plug

Turns out the oil drain plug on my project bike is stripped........know it can be rethreaded, but bike immovable at the moment (brakes probably locked) and can't even get it on centerstand or out of cramped shed, where I'm working on it.......won't be able to rethread it in place.........longer plug, perhaps? (BTW, must have been stripped once before because the plug is 21 mm, not the stock 19 mm.) Thanks as always for help.

You should probably just get another oil pan for it instead of trying to tap and rethread that one. Im sure some folks on here have a pan. Ive got an extra one.

Yes. there should be more threads in there. I did that to one of mine. They make a replacement plug that is slotted on the tip to clean threads and mine was a bit longer. Take yours with you to Pep Boys (or whatever) and find the "helper part." It uses a nylon washer that helps to prevent sudden overtorquing. Instead you have a little more turning as it gradually gets tighter. I have to use a bigger socket on it, but that is OK. Go easy on the torque if you go this route because the nylon washer seals it well and it has never vibrated loose. PS get extra washers...

It is just called "replacement drain plug", I think.
