I recently acquired a 79 XS 11 Special. I've managed to twist off the tips of my pilot screws. Yahama part #2A2-14923-00-00. Mr. Cycles lists this part at $7.76. Also the floats for these are listed at $16.34. I was wondering if anyone knows a cheaper place to find these. The bike had been setting for a few years with gas in the carbs and two of the floats had developed holes in them. I managed to solder the holes but that changed the weight of the floats. Thus making the adjustment of the floats by height harder to acheive. What should the fuel level be in the bowl with the floats properly adjusted? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the site Luke! Be sure to check out the Tech Tips link on the left. It has a lot of excellent carb advice. Also Mikes XS and Bike Bandit are a couple of reasonable suppliers.

Just don't mention that your bike is a 1100 to Mike, he caters to 650's.

The one on ebay is NOT the proper one for a 79. It might fit, but then you would have to find a way to match the carb float levels. The one you want is made of brass

The brass carb floats on mikes xs will not fit the 78-79 carbs. The plastic ones will. I just bought four for $48

beleive it or not . i just ordered mains & pilots from my local yami shop . total cost was $ 28.62 for all . probably a steal, but my guys are cheap for a dealership. only .62 cents more then mikes xs, and promoted my local economy.

                  Hey Niterider,

Somehow folks got onto the floats, forgot your pilot screws. I've seen them in carb rebuild packs on EBAY, but Not on PNM, can't remember if they are in packs on BIkeBandit! Good Luck!

Wow - XS11's are classed as VINTAGE. About float levels - one of the carby geniuses on this site says measuring the levels thru clear tubing is more accurate than a ruler jammed up next to the float. The floats are liable to be bent or twisted off slightly they say. Makes sense. 27 years worth of prodding tweaking previous owners would do that.

Mine's a 78E, but the manual doesn't give a tube measurement like the later carbs have. Next mission is to discover what the 25mm float setting equals as a tube measurement on 78' carbs. Gonna have to rig up some clear tube to the bowl drains somehow, then see how a 'pristine' float measures up.

                        Carbs

Hmm havin bad luck with these I wonder, I have 8 carb bodies complete , however both sets have the same problem , one carb on each set has the idle air screw stuck in the body and won't come out , one set is pre 80 with adjustable needle jet height and the other is from an 80 without adjustable needle jet height ,does anyone have an extra body or could lead me to somewhere I can get a carb body that will work, are there other bikes that use the same carb body ? someone told me that the xs 650 uses the same body but not the same jetting , since I am putting a header on it the jetting is irrelevant , So if anyone can help me get this figured out I would be very happily xsevly riding mine

                              Carb parts

I don't need the needle valves , I need a carb body as the idle needle screw is impacted into the carb body and I can't get it out except maybe to have it drilled ? So does anyone know if the carbs from the xs650 are physically the same.
I only need one carb body , I plan to get a complete set of jets and so forth to put it back together
