    Hi ya'll-
Thanks for the response, but I obviously wasn't clear.
The battery is charged, and the starter works. The engine will not rotate either by kicking, electric starter, or by putting it in gear and turning the wheel. It is as if there is something loose or jamming the gears. Fortunately the engine wasn't running, it just won't start... or turn over... or spin... or pee a drop!.
I hope it isn't in the starter clutch mechanism. My repair book says y'gotta pull the engine and split the cases to get to it. I'm hopping someone has a bright, simple solution!

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"

    Edgar,

When you hit the starter button, you can hear it spinning or does it just click?

When you try to kick-start it, does the kickstarter lever move freely, like it's not connected to anything or does it jam and won't budge?

How was your oil supply when you had it running last?

Pull the starter and try to rotate with the kick lever maybe the starter bendix is locked up.
There's always a way, figure it out.

        Thanks for ideas!

Yea, the kick starter won't budge while it's in gear. The starter bendex is a good idea.: I hope that's it. I sure don't want to pull the engine and split the cases.
