OK, T.C. , you got me!

Fedexguy, try this. Go back to my website and play the TCI test movie that I have posted there. When the bike is doing it's wierd thing and won't fire, do the TCI test. That test will rule out the pickups and the TCI in one simple test, and without disconnecting anything!

Basically, if the test shows a wide voltage swing at the TCI coil leads while cranking, your pickups and your TCI are working. That would leave only one culprit, the 2-3 coil. You'll want to test it while it's in the failure mode.

The tricky part is to do the test while everything is hot and the coils are hard to get to when hot! So you might want to set up an aux gas source, run it till it goes wacky and then quickly run the tests.

Don't forget to test the plug caps and trim the plug leads while you've got the caps off.

You know, these electrical problems can drive you insane. I can't tell you how many times I've been troubleshooting and the problem goes away by itself because the problem all along was a bad electrical connection at some plug. The mere process of unplugging and re-connecting can cure these types of problems but only temporarily. That's why whenever you disconnect a plug, clean it and grease it before reconnecting it. The future joy is immeasurable.

      That's my $.02

Boy ain't it the truth? The Maxim 750 I had drove me nuts with a dim light. I replced the light and the battery. The system was charging fine. Came to this site and someone suggest a simple cleaning of EVERY plug and connection on the bike...which I did.

In the process I found the main ground of the electrical system to the frame was loose. Tightened up and Shazammm! LET THERE BE LIGHT!

Listen to the Swamp Master...most (not all) electrical problems are simply bad connections.
