  • Headlight relay: got one?

Anyone have a spare headlight relay for the 79sf that works and that you would sell?

    Thanks,
    Ben

Hey Ben. I may have one from a 78E. I have never had any dealings with the relay, so if you could tell me where it is, and what it looks like, then Ill check the bike and see if it's still there. How do you test it?

      John, thanks for your time.

It's underneath the front of the gas tank right over the top of the ignition coils. It has 4 blades.

Not sure how to test it for sure. It might be considered good if when both headlight beams are good and you start the engine, the headlight comes on.

Apparently there are 4 wires that feed it: a black (ground?), red/yellow (12v dc from the fuse box), yellow (ac from the generator) and blue/black (dc output from relay to reserve lighting unit?).

I think to test it you would ground the black, feed ac voltage on the yellow wire, and feed 12v on the red/yellow wire and see if the relay clicks and sends 12v dc out the blue/black wire. It would be hard to test it while disconnected from the bike.

You are not talking about the turn signal relay are you? I've used $5 dollar auto turn signal relays before for turn signals. Do you know what part number of an auto relay will work for the headlight relay?
