  • .. you are right, the dyno runs are not cheap

550 is not a bad price, i expected it to be more. it the nicest looking exhaust system i have seen for one of these bikes lately. i like how it disapears under the bike, then reapears in front of the back tire.
..i really love how my Jardine exhaust looks and the power is great, but i'm constantly dragging them in the corners. looks like you wont be having that problem.

    • Dyno cost

Because this project is MAJOR...my dealer will likely charge a fixed fee for dyno/tuning. The cost will be fixed regardless of how many runs it takes to get it right.

If Motad had dealers in the states it would've been far less. The header it self is only $350. Byt the time ya pay the Value Added Tax (VAT) and shipping it adds $200!

I heard a sweet rumor that Motad may start marketing in the USA.

      • Here's a few pics from the project. Zilla went in for surgery today.

But he'll be out by this weekend and badder than ever!

This port shot is a little fuzzy. Dunno if you can tell much by it but they ported the intake to the new boots.

Last but not least I just had to figure a way to get a K&N installed. Since they don't make one...I DID!

Would like to see the photos, but your links don't work, you need to use PHOTODUMP or similar type storage place, not Yahoo Groups!

            • We have Mr. Zilla torn completely down. The should be going back together with him this afternoon. Hopefully will have the big lizard strapped on the dyno tomorrow.

The FJ1200 carbs will be plug and play. They bodies are identical to my XJ carbs. The ID of the bore is larger on the FJ carbs but OD on both entry and exit are same. The float bowls...diaphram covers and all are interchangeable. We'll just have to tinker with getting the carbs tuned. But as far as fitting this is a no brainer.

              • What about the spacing of the carbs? Do they line up with the intake boots on the head?

                  Yes ...perfectly...why?

                  • Really...

Why you ask? There just happens to be That Damned FJ of SWMBO's parked right next to my XS. I wonder if she'd miss them. What did you do about converting the two throttle cable system to a one cable system? Will it work as is with one cable?

                    Comment

                    • Yeah. Bobby told me the dual cable was un-needed. He doesn't use it on his race cars...just a single cable. The guy that is rebuilding my Eleven races Legend Cars...for a living. They employ the venerable FJ1200 engine. He's very knowlegeable about the FJ platform and the XS as well.

There's a chance Zilla won't like the carb transplant. In that case I'll keep the OEM carbs.

Regarding you SWMBO... I bet you could swap you 34s for her 36s and she'd never know the difference. they look the same and unless your boss is a wild woman when riding she probably wouldn't have a clue.

Just be sure and swap the diaphram covers. The FJs are gold....the XS are silver. Girls are real sensitive to changes in color...

gawd I hope she doesn't read this forum...

                      • I think she would notice

Especially with the color change. Have you seen her bike?

They are such a PITA to pull, that it wouldn't be worth it.

                        • O M G !!!

That is one awesome FJ! Very mean paint job.

No you are right it wouldn't be worth it. You'd likely need some major engine work to utilize carbs that big. Dan tells me the 34mm Mikunis that come on the 11 will support upwards of 120 hp.

The 36mm like on the FJ will likely support a 150 hp engine...just a guess. Unless your Eleven has some serious mods (not just pistons, but cams and head work) odds are it would likely hurt performance more than help.

Even with all the upgrades on this rebuild I'm not convinced the FJ carbs will do a lot of good...especially from 3000-6000. And that's what we're shooting for on this motor.

However I vividly recall the eternal words of the crazy blind man..."We shall see...we shall see."
