Re: " i like big butts"
Well now you know my dear Florida friend, but I did this 20 years ago in addition to advancing them, retarding them and using early intakes and late exhaust because the late exhaust has .020 more lift, but the added lift cannot make up the difference in lost duration. The 78-79 cams are as big as the aftermarket stage one cams with a little less lift. They will really wake up an 80-82 motor, especially one that has a good exhaust.I'm glad you did the a-b dyno thing though so all our friends on channel 11 can take advantage of this easy swap.Like we said before,if you have a naked Eleven, these early cams are the hot setup for get it on Interstate blasting. If you are looking for around town cruising or riding on country roads or your Eleven is decked out like a baby Gold Wing then stick with the little late ones, but if blasting is what your asking, your choice is 78-79.Oh yes,the late ones will get better gas mileage just as Yamaha intended. They are smaller and don't eat as much.Thank's for the A-B test.

.. well i was hoping for a bigger bottom end/mid range rush with the newer cams in my older motor, but it didnt happen. while my lines got straighter they also got lower. from the seat of my pants i could feel that it wasn't as fast as before, although i could tell that the bike reved up a little quicker, but i could also tell that that the power runs out faster. Dan Hodges was right, the bike doesn't want to go over 120mph now. maybe these cams could be good for better gas milage but i'm not going to find out. i knew i was going in the wrong direction by using these cams but i had to try. i will be putting the older cams back in tomorrow.
.. the numbers that i got today are not great but they are better numbers then when i started tuning this bike
i would have no problem with leaving these cams in and testing the gas milage part but i like how the bike ran before i changed them[its that seat of the pants thing, like how fast and how far my @ss slides back on the seat when i wack the throttle wide open]
.. this is a before and after picture, the dark blue lines are of a previous run = 85.25 hp, 65.32 torque.. the light blue lines are todays run = 82.68 hp, 63.19 torque
.. enjoy
