    • Cool exhaust...

That's about the hippest exhaust I've yet seen for the XS11. What the heck is it?
      Shiny side up,

XS1100SF "Rusty", runs great, 96k miles
XS650SJ "The Black Bike", engine from XS650H with 750cc big bore kit, 30k miles

        • .. Mike those are the Jardine spaghetti 4 into 2's with megaphones and crossover pipe. i scored these off ebay a couple of weeks ago for $78 bucks shipped

.. thanx John, i think your 79 is smokin also. a couple more dings and scratches and mine will become black also

..ok, enough with the pleasantries, lets get down with some dyno results... but first, the disclaimer
.. i dont claim to be a dyno god or even know how the thing works. i'm not a computer geek, which is why i cant seem to get all of the graphs to come out the same size each time. i have not been formally trained to use the dyno. i have only used the dyno about 25 times total so far, but i can tell you one thing for sure it is not "rocket science". if i can do it anyone can. the results i get while using the dyno are exactly the same as the results that JC gets (the guy who went to school to use the dyno)
.. the pictures of the dyno runs that i have posted here before and the ones i may post later, may or may not be acurate depictions of the power of all XS11s across the world, but they seem close and are only posted here for fun and for compairson for others to read.
..most of these bikes are nearing the 30 year old mark and it is getting pretty hard to find one that is "totally stock". no one in there right mind spends lots of money to put there bike back to totally stock just get a "base line run" and then start tuning for power..
..a "base line run", is the very first run you make before you start tuning your bike- to find out how your bike is running so you can make a change for the better, not nessesarily from stock.

.. all right enough of this sh!t, how bout some not weight holding dyno results with my new pipes

            • .. this first pic is the very first run with the new pipes on, 45 pilots/ 145 mains /the needles set at the second slot from the top(lowered one down from the middle) and 6 half inch holes in the air box and stock baffels
..it didnt seem to matter what i did to the jetting, i could not make the power better or straighten out the a/f line much.. sooo

.. i scored a set of these at $23 bucks a peice, not too bad

.. this is the differance between the stock baffels and the Vance & Hines baffs i replaced them with. as you can see i had to alter them to make them fit right, and i did use the muff packing that came with them

.. and this is what she runs like with the V&H baffs /45 pilots /140 mains /needles set in the middle position and 10 half inch holes in the air box these are the best numbers this bike has seen since i have owned it, and it seems to run its best set up where it's at right now.. 85hp 65 torque

              • .. oh yeah, this bike is kind of loud now. but not too bad, it sounds like a freakin Ferrari F40!.. i let someone ride it while i stood on the side of the rode, he blasted back and forth in front of me, it sounds pretty good, and not as loud as it does while riding it.. I Love this bike!

                • Anybody ever thought about fiddling with the rate/amount of opening of the vacumn slide to try to get rid of that dip? Looks kinda like it might not be opening enough, and causing the mixture to go rich. Maybe try a lighter spring? Is there an orifice in there that will change things?

                  • .. Steve, i am going to add an extra hole in the bottom of the slides, opposite from the exsisting holes and see what happens. i will start very small then test. if it looks like i'm going the right direction i will try a size bigger. if it looks like i'm f.ckin things up i will epoxy the holes shut and start looking for lighter springs
                    .. good idea?
. i could'nt help myself, these things are just so damn good looking.

                    • GNE, I drilled the existing slide holes out to 3mm on mine to get instant response. No problems. The metal is quite thick, so the slides need to be locked firmly when drilling.

                      • .. thanx Patrick, i almost did it just for you today, i was about to remove the baffles and the bottom of the air box for a dyno run. i put it up on the lift, busted out some tools then remembered what a bugger it was to put them baffs in there in the first place.

                              • " i like big butts"

.. well i was hoping for a bigger bottom end/mid range rush with the newer cams in my older motor, but it didnt happen. while my lines got straighter they also got lower. from the seat of my pants i could feel that it wasn't as fast as before, although i could tell that the bike reved up a little quicker, but i could also tell that that the power runs out faster. Dan Hodges was right, the bike doesn't want to go over 120mph now. maybe these cams could be good for better gas milage but i'm not going to find out. i knew i was going in the wrong direction by using these cams but i had to try. i will be putting the older cams back in tomorrow.
.. the numbers that i got today are not great but they are better numbers then when i started tuning this bike
i would have no problem with leaving these cams in and testing the gas milage part but i like how the bike ran before i changed them[its that seat of the pants thing, like how fast and how far my @ss slides back on the seat when i wack the throttle wide open]
.. this is a before and after picture, the dark blue lines are of a previous run = 85.25 hp, 65.32 torque.. the light blue lines are todays run = 82.68 hp, 63.19 torque
                                .. enjoy
