  • What the heck?!?!?

And now... The Forbidden one lives up to her name again. I finally got my bike permit, was going to dmv on friday to get new title and register. I ride home from work(1 mile)....decent. get home.....ride to cash my check (2 miles)....dies. starts again 10 mins later. ride home(1 mile-long story). turn off. wont start again
carbs were jst synced today. full tank of 93 octane gas. bike only turns over w/ o plugs installed. w/ plugs. its like i pulled starter out. all it does is short out...no lights to gauges till i release button.

    Hey Lord Grizzlon,

Sounds like your battery is dying, or your charging system isn't working properly, reg/rect messed up, poor grounding wires, etc.! Sounds like you need to charge the battery, and do a thorough check of your charging system!

Sorry for Edit....Public forum...kids can see!

        Hey Lord,

It's not just the battery ground cable, but also the Engine to Frame grounding strap at the back of the engine! And check to see if it's putting out the right amont of volts....14.5 at the 2500 rpm range.....if only 12 or less, then either the reg/rect isn't working, or the stator coils aren't working! Good Luck!

          does the tach work

The tach is tied to the charging circuit and it's generally considered that if it doesn't work that it's a good sign of a charging failure.

everything wrks whn its workin. it jst wont crank over when plugs are in.if for some miracle tht she does start ...it all good til i kill the engine or the engine kills itself on idle.

Where are you located in Bklyn? I am in Queens Mon-Thurs every week and can give you a hand after work next week. Let me know.

Dum question, but I'm curios. Does the bike start with the kick starter?

Don't get too frustrated with the old girl. Just take your time and fix one problem at a time. The coil wire fix is pretty simple. A little bit at a time and she'll be running good. I havn't had much of any problems with mine, but I've had to be patient and work out one problem at a time. There are alot of things that I wanted ( and still want ) to do to my bike, but I've givin myself a few more gray hairs, Frustrated and wanting it fixed/done yesterday.

It seems like the closer i get to riding legally, the less she wanted to work. Heres what i have done in the past 2 days

                      synced carbs
                      Replaced 2-3 coil
re-synced carbs ( i seriously screwed up the first time)
lost left sidecover on ride home from work
recieved rght side cover tht i order 2 wks ago
                      fixed pick-ups
                      got insurance
cleaned flywheel (covered in rust. lets see if this fixes my charging problem)
re-fixed pick-ups ( i seriously screwed up the first time)
                      cleaned stator connectors
fiddled w/ idle adjstment ( slight poppin in low end)
                      got registratio, and plate
                      Replaced 1-2 coil
adjusted clutch (slippage and gurgle from exhaust in low end/ idle)
fiddled w/ idle adjstment ( slight poppin in low end still, but gettin better)

                      now...

i am going for inspection 2morro, so we will see what else will go wrong. good news is tht since i work in a bike shop, i should be able to pass ( aslong as my boss is not an ass, or hopefully gets some ass from his girl)

i think im good, all that is left is the slight gurgle and bog aroung 2000-3000 rpms during tke off. it just means tht i tke off at 5000 instead

Let it be, grizz, they all do that. It might help to turn the mixture screws out 1/4 turn, but it won't completely go away. The motor doesn't wake up at all till 3000.
