XJ lock questions

First questions, front fork lock-
How is the front fork lock supposed to work? I can put the key in, but the lock wont turn or push in. What is supposed to happen to make this work? I hear XS owners talking about using the ignition switch position to lock forks. Is this true of XJ's too? The positions past "on" dont seem to do a thing for me. If needed, can the lock be removed without taking off the front forks?

Secondly,on the seatlock/ helmet lock-
Should thislock the seat in the normal position? On mine the seat levers can be pushed and the seat removed at any time. the only thing the key does is unlock the little helmet hook. Am i missing a step here to locking the seat down?

On my XS, I have to turn the steering bar all the way to the right. Then I can turn the key to the left to the first position to lock the forks and pull out the key. Watch out and don't turn it to the second position and pull the key or you may come out to a dead battery.

The XS doesnot have a seat lock like you describe so I can't help you there.

The XJ steering lock is located on the steering head tube. Turn the bars to the far right and you should see a lock on the tube. Only the XS has the lock in the ignition switch.

when you lock yours is it a push in and turn or just turn the key. i dont want to force things too much and break anything. i've tried various angles on the steering figuring that it has a specific place it needs to be to lock. I just havn't gotten it to work. Thanks-Tom.

just went and checked mine in the garage....

Turn the bars far right, insert key and turn key counterclockwise about 1/4 turn. At this point, the key should slightly push in. Now turn the bars slightly back to the left (about 1/2" - 1" maybe)while pushing the key in. When you get the "spot" the key will push in, you can turn the key back (clockwise) 1/4 turn while pushing in and you're locked. Good luck.
