Loosen off the camchain slack adjuster. Stuff a rag down the gallery. Remove the bolts from the sprockets and drop the sprockets off of their mounting seat. Remove all of the caps. The cams should come out now.

BTW - if it's not too late, you might want to line everything up with #1 at TDC before you start any of this....

      Hey Scappod,

Due to the tight spaces and 180 positioning of the cam sprocket bolts, you can't get them both off of one sprocket without rotating the sprocket/cams. So....hopefully you haven't loosened the cam bearing caps nuts too much, otherwise retighten then to snug, then you can still safely rotate the crank and the cams will be in time. Position crank/cams close to TDC, loosen 1 cam sprocket bolt from each cam, then rotate the crank/cams to get to the opposite sprocket bolts, loosen them and remove them, then rotate the crank and cams to TDC, so that the cam "dots" are pointing straight up, then loosen and remove the remaining sprocket bolts all the way so you can slide the sprockets OFF of the cam shoulder, DON'T FORGET THE RAG DOWN THE Center, and NOW loosen and remove the bearing cap nuts and washers and then you can safely lift and remove the cams, sliding them out from the sprockets and head. There will be some tension from one of the valves pushing up the cams on one end as you loosen the nuts. The bearing caps have #s stamped on top, I1, I2, etc for Intake, and E1, E2, etc for exhaust, keep them straight and remember to put them back in the same location.

Once you have removed both cams, then if you need to for some reason, you can rotate the crank all you want, ALL of the valves are now retracted into the head, won' t hit any! Just be sure it's on TDC when you go to put the cams back in!
