  • Leakdown tester correction

    XSive Moderators -

I was taking a look at Mike Nixon's Leakdown Tester and found a few mistakes/typos.
And, you need to now how to find TDC (top dead center)...
    And...
For the professional touch, carefully pry off the bezel and cover the faceplate with a copy of the label shown here.
The original graphic was omitted from the article. Luckily, Mike's article appears elsewhere on the Internet. Here's the graphic:

I'm sure that's not the correct image. A gauge is not going to say "Image hosted by tripod"

When I first edited the message it worked fine, but now TRIPOD forwards the request to the Tripod.COM graphic. I guess those folks don't provide that kind of service. I've uploaded it to my web page. You're welcome to link it to the article. Here ya go...

It's hard to read, but what the author intended to do was make the gauge read the percentage of leakage, rather than the number of pounds pressure. Start with 100 psi at the "0" mark, then each 10 psi of leakage equals 10%. It really isn't necessary for the article or the leakdown tester, but it was referenced in the text. FWIW.

Ummm... Sorry for digging this one up, but I had a question and after searching this seemed like the only thread devoted to the DIY leakdown tester outlined by Mr. Nixon. I was hoping someone here might know the importance of the "damper valve" and why it's required. I've seen other DIY type posts but none of the others include instructions for the "damper valve".

            Thanks in advance,
            Andrew
