  • "New Dunlops?" or "What's wrong with my Elite II's anyway?"

    Anyone try the Elite 3?

    I've got a MU9016 and a MM9019 on order.

My "5" date-coded 491 Elite II's that came on the bike were plenty sticky. Unfortunately, so worn that the rear had an almost bald and flat center. I still liked riding the extreme twisty roads like Blacks Mountain Rd and 130, Mount Hamilton Rd over to the junction. They're the MU with RWL...and yes, they rub.

Dunlop claims that the 3's will be longer wearing and, to me, they look better.

I forgot, they have a http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.com/tire...tire.asp?id=91 radial for the Victory (?) and our sizes in bias ply , looks like dunlop uses the same pictures for the bias and radial.

to prevent rubbing with the mu90 i placed a washer shim to offset the spacing of the wheel from the drive shaft.

        Yeah baby!

I received the tires on Friday and the guy at the shop pointed out how much narrower the rear is. I think that a 150 or 160 Elite 3 may fit on our bikes. I rode them to the races at Sears Point on Saturday. Nice. We did about a hundred miles on the slab so I thought that they were pretty-well broke in.

I've got to clarify that the II's that came off were worn flat in the middle. The rear looked more like a car tire than a motorcycle tire. Point is anything would've been an improvement.

I rode the twisties through the Santa Cruz Mountains today. Kings Mountain Rd to 35, 84 to Pescadero Rd and back roads to Rt 1 (OK, we started in San Mateo). The tires were rock-stable and felt as confidence inspiring as the Diablos on my ZRX. (I know; apples and oranges but the tires felt great. No way I'd push the XS as I do the ZRX) We left the coastline south of Davenport and ended up on the Empire Grade to Tennitis Creek Rd down 236 to Boulder Creek and up the legendary Rt 9 to 35 again. Only a couple of cage-passes on 9 (invited by the drivers) and I was on the correct side of the road when I screamed past the LEO (he had two bikes pulled over on the other side).

The bonus of the day was Page Mill Rd. I do this road often but it's back on the front burner for me as City Bike recently reviewed the new Beemer after testing on Page Mill. The road was recently repaved and patched in some of the bad sections so it was faster than ever.

The elevation changes were about 12K feet overall today. The milage was about 200. Too many turns to count!!! What a great day!

Two thumbs up! The tires work great but you may have trouble getting a pair. My local shop informed me that the Elite 3 is on backorder with Dunlop until the end of May. I spoke to the mail-order guy and he confirmed availability prior to me transferring funds. Too soon to comment on their longevity buy hey, they're Elite's...right?

              Hi Rubba,
Great looking bike... the tires look good too!
Enjoyed your ride report too. However those taillights must make it look like you are Jet propelled or your ass is on FIRE
