  • Anyone willing to part with parts?

Well as I have learnt, a lot of you guys have some extra parts for the xs laying around...and I am wondering if anyone wants of make some extra cash for them. I am sure I am going to be needing a lot to restore "The Tank" and if anyone is interested drop me a line. Not too sure if the classifieds are working, but I couldn't find what I was looking for, couldn't find anything for that matter. Maybe a swap meet forum could be worked into the forums???

Anyways, I need side covers, and handle bars (more then likely just going to go buy them from the dealer, but if you got an extra set of 7/8 laying around, I'll take em)

PM me if your interested, and we can talk prices...ect. And if this thred should be moved...sorry but I thought I would ask

You had better be more specific concerning the model bike, or you might end up with those crummy "buckhorn" bars...of course you might be looking for those if you have a special that is to be stock. My wrists hurt just thinking about it. Side covers vary as well.

The best place to watch for parts is on Ebay. Use the search feature and run a variety of scenarios like 'yamaha xs eleven', 'yamaha xs11', 'yamaha xs1100', 'yamaha xs 11', and 'yamaha xs 1100'. Once in a while, transpose the xs to sx. There's anywhere between 100-200 parts listed there just about any given day. A note here like you posted can also scare up some possibilities if you get specific enough on what you're looking for for your '80, but be aware there are actually three models from 1980, each with some minor differences.

I have got two style of bars. One pair are the long sweeping stock (like the special on the cover of the clymer manual) and the other are a little more square.

            Skids,
why did you warn him, I thought I could unload those wrist wreckers I have. I bought the bike with 12,000 miles and have not idea how the guy did it. I couldn't drive 12 with those buckhorns just about crippling me.

Haha! For me the pain is due to an old injury from the military...too much foosball in the barracks! :-)

                knocking the bars

                Hi Artic_rider,
what with shipping costs you're as well off buying new bars off the rack at the local bike shop.
And you guys, don't badmouth the rototillers, Jetmechmarty loves 'em.
OTOH sidecovers are hard to find (or were when I was looking)
My '80 Special has non-matching covers. It had the correct leftside cover when I bought it but lacked a rightside cover.
The only replacement I could find was off a '79 Standard.
The top hold-ons were different (slots vs holes) but Dremel-fixable & the bottom peg was the same so it went on OK. The shape is a little different but who can see both sides at once?

Your totally right...for 49.99 canadian, I managed to pick up a spiffy set of bars today at the local harley dealer of all places ( love to ride in there with a yammy...lol...thank God I actually own a HD) Anyways, thanks for the heads up on the side covers. If someone could point me in the right direction as to posting a picture on the site, I would love to give you all a little insight on "The Tank" and what I am up against.
