  • Cleaning master cylinder & other brake parts

I'm in the process of rebuilding the brakes on my bike, and all of the parts, especially the master cylinders, are really funky. I know they say to use only brake fluid or denatured alcohol to clean them with, but these things are so dirty it makes me want to drop them in the parts cleaner first. Would first cleaning everything in the parts cleaner and then following up with say denatured alcohol hurt anything? I have simple green in the parts cleaner right now. Thanks for your advice.

Go for it. "Ya what you said". Just make sure you give everything a good alcohol bath afterward to remove any petroleum based contaminants. Do not wash any rubber products with anything other than alcohol or lots of brake fluid.
