    Hey Tom,

Ken/Ratbyk and I concur, you need to run in the mid to upper rpms more, don't lug it so much in the low rpms!! You say you shift at 5k, that's barely getting into the power band, you should run it up to 6 or 7 in each gear until you get to the speed you want, then find a gear that lets you run above the 4K range!

You stated that it felt like a loss of power at the 5K+ range?? Have you tried this run WITHOUT the pod filters on!? Several posts stated that the EMGO's were okay, and that the lip wasn't hindering the intake, but there's always a chance!?

With the floats set at 25mm, they are already set fairly lean. And you say you haven't changed the main jets yet.....what you could be experiencing is too lean at the higher rpms?? The pilot circuit does contribute to the mid range, in ever decreasing amounts as you roll on the throttle, but it still contributes! Getting that grey color is getting there, but if you're reading your plugs from just short runs, then you're not really reading them in the sustained mid/hi range, just barely above the pilot circuit.

Did you read that marathon thread that Mike Hart posted about his exploits in rejetting his XJ with Indy filters? Keep at it!!

Road testing an XS11 on roads with a 40 mph speed limit seems kinda pointless. Don't think you are going to get going fast enough with a bit of a load on the engine so the motor works and there fore reading the plugs will have some meaning. Light load, low RPM then reading the plugs will not give you anything to work with. At least not out in the real world at highway speeds in a, can we say,"sporting manner"
Get out of town some where were you can let your XS out a bit, put the engine to work with a load on it and some revs on the tach. Then read the plugs.

Guess I need to put more time on the road... It's been so friggin cold here the last week or so.. Hoping to get it out and run it later this week for a longer higher rev run.

Tonight for kicks I gave it a quick run down the road. The bogginess I'm talking about is exactly as you say, getting from idle up to an rpm where I can hit 2nd. I'll let er' rev more but tonight I rolled on it in 1st gear and it really chugged - a little cough even and then took off. Too lean maybe on the idle now?

Don't worry - I'll learn to let it rev. Just trying to get all the tweaks I can done right to allow for a mostly trouble free year of riding. Last year I spent half the summer working on the bike and missed a lot of prime riding season.
