carb commonalities from year to year

I've got an 82 XJ that I need some carb float bowls for. Should I be shopping only for the 82 float bowls or are other year carb float bowls common? Hope that made sense..

Early floats were brass, later ('81 and newer?) units were plastic. You should have a set of matching floats, whichever type you get. New floats are around $10 each. There are differences in the carbs used over the years, but the floats and jets are interchangeable.

Do you know if the float bowls (not floats) are interchangeable?

You can use the bowls from an 81 xs. They have the small port on the bottom of the bowl like the xj does.
