Oil cooler thermostat options

I did some searching for oil cooler thermostats after reading about the lockhart one in the product evaluations and I may have found a lower priced ($43) alternative here http://www.batinc.net/thermos.htm. I found a lot of options, but I don't know what the optimal running temp range is and most required the screw in oil hose.
I think I might give this a try.

Is no one interested in this? I will eventually get one , but I was wondering, what is the desired opperating temp?

The oil should bypass the cooler until it reaches about 200 F. The high end of the oil temp is about 275 F. I used to see 315 on my '78 dresser running at 125 up I-5 in the summer. You really want to try and keep the oil temp below 300, and 325 is death.

That sounds really high to me (even though I obviously don't know any better). All the thermostats I have been seeing are set for 180 including the Lockhart which is 160-180.
