  • tach wobble at shifting

I noticed this yesterday. When I shift hard the tach wobbles a bit, about 250-500 rpm. Is this due to - inacuracy in the tach due to age or alternator/stator- clutch slipage due to synthetic oil ( I havent noticed any slippage when pressed hard in any gear)- or this is normal and Im just now noticing it.?

First bike was an: 1978 XS1100
    Second bike is an FJR1300.
    Now I'm restoring a '79 XS1100.

Sounds like it could be the start of clutch slip. If we were talking face to face I could verbally demonstrate the sound for you, but! (how in the hell does one write nnMMMMnnnnnn! ?) Tee Hee

Wobbles are one thing and clutch slipping is another. I had a tach that wobbled and it did so with bumps in the road, etc. It is a failure of the dampener in the gage, I think. OTOH, if you have clutch slippage, usually in a higher gear and at the higher torque range when you are getting on it, you will hear the difference in rpms and likely feel the loss in acceleration.
