My XS11 loses power several times an hour while riding at different speeds. I think the gas cap may be plugged up and creates a vacuum causing fuel starvation. Does anyone know how to check this problem out? Thanks.

Gas cap venting check

When it loses power, does it stop running completely, or does it just lose power and then after the engine slows down, starts running again?
In my experience with plugged vent caps, the engine will cut out completely. Then, after a short period of time, the vacuum created by the plugged cap will disapear and you can start the engine again. If it is doing this, then as soon as it stops running, pop the fuel cap open. If yoiu hear a rush of air, and can then restart the engine, the cap is probably plugged. Dissasemble and clean it out.
If it's just a momentary loss of power, I would check the wires leading to the pickup coils as described here Coil pickup wire fix on Ken Talbot's page.Brian

Re: Gas cap venting check
Yeah. Open (loosen) the cap and run the bike to see if that is the problem.
