  • All dressed up and nowhere to go

Thought you guys might wanna see Zilla since I added lowers and hardbags. The bags are off a 1983 Venture Royale. They were gold and yellow. I painted them black and pin striped them to coordinate with the Windjammer IV. Maybe we could call this hybrid a Maxim Royal?

It sucks getting old. A few years ago I'd have never dreamed I wanted a full dressed road bike. In the words of my favorite American icon John Wayne "...yep... things change..."

Speaking of old...I turned 45 today. I used to think my B-day was kinda cool. The first shots of the Revolutionary War were fired at Lexington, Mass. on April 19 ya know.

Now I vividly recall spraying weeds in the parking lot of our business at a few minutes before 9 am ten years ago. I HUGE ka-boom literally rattled the windows of our office. It shook the ground it was so big. I called my father and told him I thought the Carney gas plant (about 30 miles away) had just exploded. Sometimes things like that happen in the energy biz. Seems like it happens in Texas City all the time. I couldn't imagine anything other than that coming from that direction. A few minutes later I heard on the news it was Federal building in downtown OKC...almost 70 miles away. Unbelievable it would rattle the windows and shake the ground from that distance. I'll never forget that...that was one of the worst birthdays in my life. My next door neighbor lost his brother that day...

Whewwww....anyway...yes they do look like they belong. Yammy made bags for the Maxim series called X-1 ...I think. They looked very much like these Venture Royale bags. That's why I bought these. It's very hard to find X-1s...they only made a few.

I got them on eBay. Paid $90 plus shipping.

You sure that's a Windjammer IV? Looks more like a V from that angle. The V has kind of a shroud around the headlight. Slightly different graphics, but the main thing is that the lowers have different bolt mounting pattern. Just curious....

It wasn't difficult. When I bought the bike it only had 5800 miles. All I did was add the lowers and the hardbags.

The main reason I posted the pic was to see what everyones response would be to the "Venture Royale" bags on a XJ11. Not that I would change anything but it's nice to hear fellow Eleven Lovers give it a thumbs up.

                          Thanks guys.
