  • 80 xs1100g (25k) for $300.00

Hello all! Sorry if you looked at this thread looking to buy. Im just the new guy and had to post this. I've been a biker at heart since I was 13. Dad bought me a Honda 70 for my 14th birthday. Everyone else had bigger and cooler bikes. I used it to deliver newspapers, to and from a window washing job, and just plain getting around until I disvoverd jumping! Had a natural dirt ramp in the woods that ran between 2 huge pecan trees. It got you sailing at tree tops (15 feet) up at 45 mph. Anyway I always wanted a big bike. I was a harley fan, still am I guess, but I got this great deal on my 80 xs1100G. Full fairing and bags. The vetter has a round headlight instead of square which is correct for the year. The guy was second owner and couldn't ride it. I picked it up for $300.00. I am in the Pacific Northwest and it rains a lot but I've put a couple hundred on it already. Man I love this bike and I'm stuck on all the specifics about xs11's. I think the 79F with the seat cowl is a sharp looker. I've been trying to pick up original parts off ebay so I can get back to stock look when I want to and have had some luck doing so. I like the clean look of stock but you guys know the advantage of a fairing and bags. I have visited this forum and you are all great. This is the place to get answers and I look forward to any help I can give or get. Thanks much. (Dan in WA state)

Thats a good bike Dan, my dad has the same one. It, in fact, inspired the little club we've developed here in Reno. Of the four that I've had the privilege of working on, his has been the most dependable and trouble free. Granted, he's a grandfather, but after 20,000 miles he hasn't even needed a valve adj.

          Thanks for the welcome guys!

I'm really glad to be a member and thanks for the welcome guys.
Now I'm looking for tech info on the bike. I think I've got a bad middle drive unit. Everytime I get on the throttle heavy, I get slippage and rattle at the middle drive unit. Thought it may be oil/cluttch problem, but then I heard some rattling at slow speed in a turn. I'll change oil and filter and see what happens but really wont know for sure until I get a good check of the drive train. Bike does fine if I accelerate just under 3/4 throttle. Keeping my fingers crossed that I can find the paaarts if it is the middle drive.

            mother of all XS1100's Colors?

Does anyone know what year the Yamaha Vstar classic is that has maroon and cream colors? They are almost identical to the first yamaha built for export to the U.S. in 1957. That little mother of all XS1100's is posted as a milestone bike on yamaha's official website.
