Fork Seal Top?

I'm putting new fork seals in the sliders of my XJ and removed the old ones quite a while ago. Now I'm looking at the new ones, and see that they have two lips as if to seal from both direction. The only difference I can see is that the inside dia. of one of the lips is slightly smaller than the other one and has a deeper recess behind.

Which lip goes down????? Based on my experience with seals, I would think the side with the smaller inside dia. lip and the deeper recess behind it would go down toward the oil and air, but I want to be sure. The manual doesn’t specify.

These are Yamaha seals.
