  • Carb Swap

Im am thinking of swapping out the carbs on my xs11 with a set of 38mm Mikuni flat slides from my dad's retired drag bike. any input?

38mm flatslides will most probably turn your motor into a temperamental and unresponsive pig at lower revs.

Smooth bores only perform properly in one mode. WOT! They are a pain in everyday street riding.

I know Ill need to jet it down quite a bit and planned on putting on a 4 into 1 header if you think that will help.

            Smooth Bores

Never had a set on an XS-XJ but did have a set on a 82 1100 Suzuki Katana. It definitely was faster on the smooth bores than with the original carbs. They provided more acceleration and more punch at top end but were an aggravation to ride with at more acceptable (legal) speeds in everyday use. Only left on about three weeks and swapped back to the originals. I then sold them without ever using them again. When I installed them they were brand new and properly jetted for the Katana.
I know that Denny Z tried a set on an XS and also found them away to abrupt in everyday use. Really hard to modulate and control the throttle while running the twisties. You were either accelerating or decelerating. They just did not like to run smoothly on part throttle.
