  • half moons?

I'm back! And my bike started! (muchos gracias to all who responded: it was the tip switch, I had put it in upside down, hence no spark!)

Now for the next question... all this started when I put a new valve gasket on to stop a gush of oil leaking... well, the gush is down to a very slow drip, and it is coming from the bottom of the little rubber half-moon cam plug. Is there any way to fix this besides getting a new rubber plug? The guy at a local shop told me to wrap it in teflon tape and reinstall it... any merit to that?Where do I get new plugs if I have to go that route?

PS I just bought my second bike, an XS750 triple, I will be picking it up at the end of the month! Woo hoo!

    Bought second bike... xs750

Yup... looks like he was bitten by the bug, too. What a terrible addiction to have!
Again, I'd recommend cleaning the gasket and mating surfaces with Brakleen and then smear on some "The Right Stuff". Same as silicone, but sets in five minutes. Rather pricey... about $13 a tube, but I've never had to pull an engine back out of a bike to fix an oil leak. The price is well worth the piece of mind. It's in a can, (like processed cheese spread), and can be found at any auto parts store. Give it a chance to cure before firing the beast up, as with any sealer.

              Boosting Parts Order

Suggest also ordering a set of exhaust rings (gaskets). They are cheap when the shipping is of multiplke items. You will likely need a set within a year or next time you drop the exhaust.

I used black RTV to seal around the half moons. Never leaked again. I just bought a new set from PnM because I figuired if I am pulling the valve cover off again, I can replace them as well as do other work.

Are both half moons leaking? If only one, then you can have my spare one that is in good condition.
