There was talk of a shim bank a while ago. Is this still happening?
I went through and checked all my valves today. I took down all the measurements and anything out of spec, I pulled the shims with the help of a little grinding down on my MP Tool I got from Bike Bandit. It too me about 3 hours from start to finish. The first two hours were spent measuring with the guage and figuiring out how to place the MP tool and grind it down a bit so it was easier to get the shims out.
So I have a few questions that I hope I can get some help with.
1) My guage which I picked up from NAPA, not only has metric and standard, it has two measurements on it that seem to be .002 inches (~.05 mm) off from each other. For example .005 inch .007 inch and .127mm .178mm are all on the same guage.
I thought it might be that one half side of the tip is one thickness and the other half of the tip is the other. That did not seem to work out so is it that the measurement of the guage is a thickness between those two points?
2) I made up a table of what I measured and what I believe I need. Can someone check this for me and let me know if what I marked the dimensions are OK and I do need the shims indicated.
intake Specs .006 -.008 .16 - .20
1 2 3 4
inch .005 -.007 .006-.008 .007-.009 .008-.010
mm .127-.178 .152-.203. .178-.229 .203-.254
1 2 3 4
have 275 OK 275 285
need 270 OK ? 290
Exhaust Specs .008 - .010 .21 - .25
1 2 3 4
inch .008-.010 .008-.010 .010-.012 .013-.015
mm .203-.254 .203-.254 .254-.305 .330-.381
1 2 3 4
have OK OK 280 285
need OK OK 285 300
3) Being that the 3rd intake is so close to spec, should I leave it alone?
4) So if I am correct, I need 3 shims. After moving the 285 shim I pulled from the #4 intake and putting it in the #3 exhaust (I am going by the stamped numbers of course), I have some I can't use and some I need.
I have a 275, 280 and 285 I don't need. I need a 270, 290 and 300. Can anyone help me out with the 3 shims I need?
Thanx in advance for assitance
