My brother n law had a V-max. WOW, what a hoot that was to fly . I have a friend at work who is selling a Honda V65. I want it so bad. It has about 17,000 on it and he is asking $2,700 for it. It is in showroom condition. I have ridden it. It is very nice and it also screams. But for now, I have to be happy with my XS750. And I am happy with it. By the way, I did sit on a Victory 8 Ball a couple of weeks ago. I do like it, but as already stated in this thread, most of the new bikes don't really interest me at all.
What about a Royal Star it has a detuned V-Max engine 1300
V-4 . She'll get up on go to.

You guys have officially debunked my clever little saying
VMax gets after it, as I imagine the Royal Star does..The V65...now that is a whole other story in and of itself..just keep an eye on the cams in the earlier ones, or so I'm told....
How about,
An inline four..smokes Vtwins by the Score.
You Vmax and other V-4 types can insert your motors arrangement as you see fit.
I bought my 1st XS (a XS750-D2) in 79. Put a Vetter on it and the wife and I saw the country. Sold it in 82 (a down payment on a house) with he vow that one day I would own its big brother. After years of riding smaller bikes (KZ305, DT185, XJ650) I fianaly found it, an 80 XS1100 Midnight Special. Bought it from the son of a freind. It didn't take long to remember why I fell in Love with my old XS750, the 1100 is just an incredible machine. It is ashamed to see them go.

There is still something about a V design I don't particularly like. Every V type bike I've ridden has some sort of vibration...I can't quite articulate. The twins are worse. But the first time I rode a V-max I felt it. It was a little different than a twin but still there. At first I thought it had a slight miss.
But then as I drove another V-max and another....then I test drove two or three V65 Magnas I felt it there as well.
No doubt these bikes (V65 and Vmx) will run like a striped spider. But they still have a vibe I don't care for. The I-4 is much smoother IMUO (in my uninformed opinion)
That's why I was torn between a V-max and an Eliminator. Both are badd to the bone. Mr. Max looks so MEAN...so cool. The V-max is a quite a bit badder especially on top end. Not so much in the 1/4. But after driving three V65 and several ZL (900 and 1000) I have no doubt the Kawasaki will take a V65 in the quarter regardless of what any magazine says.
The V-max looks so cool. But I see 'em everywhere. I never see Eliminators. So considering their rarity and the fact they employ an I-4 Ninja/GPX motor I went with the ZL...
Lord...how'd this thread get so far off topic? I thought this was a "save the whale (xs)" thread.
Speaking of a bad-@ss looking new ride, the new Yamy Warrior looks awesome. All that black and crome with that giant muffler on the side... it just looks awesome. But, I still love the bike I've got and I haven't even gotten to really ride it yet (pure torture). Besides, what does one do with a new bike besides ride it? What does one tinker on with a brand new bike... really?

Boy ... I'd love to find out. Sometimes I get so sick of working on old bikes instead of riding them.
The Warrior is a bad looking machine....but that's about the sum of it. The one I rode(bone stock) was a total DOG.
Well, first you add about 500 watts of extra driving lights . . . that's so you can actually identify what kind of wildlife you're fixen to smash into . . .
Then you add a radio, some other misc accessories . . . and then put about 60,000 miles on it in two years.
You'll have plenty of tinkering just in tire, brake, oil, and air-filter changes . . .
Hmmm....come to think of it . . . I've not had to turn a wrench an a single other thing . . .
Ah, well. I still get to work on ALL my friends' bikes (and it seems, every bike I've ever sold).
LOL!
Ride 'em hard folks!

Here in Nor-Cal, the winters are long and cold. I have spent the last 5 months working on restoring my bike during the continuous cold winter that I would not ride in anyway. I have had a blast doing it; late nights after work/school, and weekends. It has been a memorable experience.

I'm hip...
I asked a guy who owns a V45 about that one time and he talked about the gyroscopic effect of all the pistons in a row instead of opposing each other. He said that is why so many police chose the big Kawis over other designs. The gyroscopic effect of the motor helps them turn around in tight spaces much easier and faster. In fact I think I remember seeing a thread regarding that very maneauvre somewhere on this site at one time or another. Anyway, whatever....in my even more uninformed oppion, you still gotta have..Four in a row to get up an go. Or...If there's four in a V, you squat to pee. (Borrowed from a US Navy Fighter pilot regarding carrier landing techniques as opposed to Air Force fighters which use long runways )
