  • Gold Leaf

I'm getting closer to the point of reasembling my engine after painting it and painting my XJ. I was looking at the tank and side cover emblems and wondered if anybody has used gold leal on them? It would sure look better than a gold paint

Gold paint looks not too bad if you spray the whole emblem, clearcoat it, then carefully fill in the black. I believe there's a short write-up on this procedure here .

        Hey Maximan,

My understanding is that it's REAL GOLD, just a few mills thick, you essentially apply it with pressure, kinda like tin foil. Being gold, it probably isn't too cheap!?

          Gold Leaf

No, I haven't got the manual yet.

It is real gold. 22 to 24 K. It comes in a 'book with 25 leaves 3.375"x3.375", or about 285 sq. in. for under $40.00. It's thin enought that you can see light through it. I'm bidding on some on eBay now. Don't know if it will work or not, but if it does, it will sure be purty.

Ok Louis...you should get it anyday now.

I bet it would be to easy applying the stuff over old emblems. I guess it would probably be "glued" on then an exacto knife used to trim it?

From what I've read about gold leaf, when it drapes over the letters, it will shear itself in the edge. It's extreamly delicate.
