  • fork brace question

There is a Daytona fork brace on Ebay and it says it fits all models 79-82. Is this right? The T-Kat has different braces for the standard and special right?
    Here is the brace

Hard to say what it fits, as the design is different from Tkat's. Tkat's F/B fits on the 'lip' at the top of the lower fork. If you lift up the fork seal you will see the lip. There is no doubt that both the diameter of Tkat's F/B clamps, and the rise (or lift) to clear the fender is different for different models. One size does not fit all.

The Daytona F/B pictured in the listing looks like it clamps around the lower fork tube below the 'lip'. This may give a bit of leeway in what models it will fit, but I seriously doubt it would clear the fender of my '82 XJ.

I would ask about a refund policy if it does not fit. You would probably have to pay shipping in at least one direction, but check on the seller's policy.

In the rallies I've been to I've yet to see one of these on an XS or XJ, though I have seen the Telefix as well as Tkat's fork braces. I'ld be a bit on the skeptical side.

I bought the Tkat brace, and it fits and works great. for $85, I would not take a chance!! I have to put in too many hours for my money. The brace doesn't seem to have the clearance for a fender on the standard, let alone a special.

Another guy her in Houston has a Daytona on his 78 Std, it looks good and works like it should but he had to shim it around the clamping part.
There's always a way, figure it out.

I'd love to have a TKAT brace. But I guess he's out of business. I've sent him 5 or 6 e-mails in the past two weeks and he won't answer.

So I found another beside Telefix that builds fork braces for the XS1100:

          http://www.motorcycle-parts.com.au/fork_braces1.htm

There a little higher...$184 Aussie...but I guess it's better than no brace at all.

Ok...thanks for the tip. I just need at least one (preferably two) within the next 4 weeks. I want to take KONG on a road trip. But the way it feels in the front end I won't until it gets some support.

I will tell you I have a Telefix on the front of Jehu and it works very well. So if I was forced to go with something else I doubt it woul be a waste of money.

I would just prefer to have a Tkat...

                  TKAT fork brace

Are you sure you are sending your e-mail to the right place? I ordered mine on 02-20-05 and got it nine days later.I have an 81 special and it fits and works perfectly. It fits real close to the front fender,so while I was polishing it on the buffing wheel I put a very small radius in front of the cross piece that was closest to the fender and now I have that .125 of an inch clearence that makes me feel comfortable. I too, looked at the Aussie model that cost 185$ and it looked snazzy with a nice rounded radius over the fender, but the fork clamps were thin on the outboard side which I didn't like. It was also black and I wanted mine to be shiny to match the front fender. Tkats address is 1745 Grant St.#5,Santa Clara,Ca.

How quick is that 1000 Eliminator! Have you ever raced a really tricked out XS or stock FJ 1100! I've seen some 900 Eliminators, but never a 1000,just wondering what they run like.

His address is,Tkat,1745 Grant St. #5 Santa Clara, Ca. 95050 U. S. A. His e-mail is,tkat@tkat.com. I received an e-mail from that e-mail address on 02-23-05.He was alive at that time, but I hear he is kind of cantankerus,so be patient and good luck.I hope I didn't make him mad complaining about the small tool marks on my fork brace,as they buffed out easily.I had ommitted telling him that I was somewhat of a nut case when it came to perfection and that old motorcycle.

Ok Dan...I've e-mailed him for the 6th or 7th now. Everytime I've sent it to that address. I duuno what's happening but I guess he's not getting the e-mails.

I've been courteous everytime. Maybe he'll contact me in a few days. So far I've had no luck after 2 or 3 weeks getting in contact with him.

Concerning Jehu ... my ZL1000 Eliminator. That thing is FREEKY quick. It will nail 120 mph so fast it's almost un-nerving. I had it at 118 mph the other day...redline....in 4th gear. It has two more to go being a 6 speed. It's bone stock. I've been rolling along at 4000 rpm in 3rd (redlines at 10,500) and simply twist the throttle and the darn thing will spin the tire and torque sideways hard...and it's a huge fat rear tire (Metzler).

The really cool thing about this bike is when you hammer it hard the thing literally jumps straight up ... like a cat. I guess the front end is trying to come off the ground from acceleration...but the shaft "jack" effect counters the wheelie action launching the rear end up as well. So instead of standing the bike on it's rear wheel when you dump the clutch...the bike literally jumps UP. It's very cool because it's easy to control....other than the rear tire spinning sideways.

I've thought about doing a Wiseco Big Bore and really pumping it up. I've never tangled with a XS on steriods. I would be interesting...but I fear the 11 might spank it. However if I tricked this Jehu out (Wiseco...re-jet....header...etc) it would likely smoke a lot of "fast" sportbikes red light to redlight and 1/4 mile.

Top end is not real high. The Eliminators were built for streetfighting. They are geared way low. Kinda like a '69 SS with a 4.56 positrac. I've run up around 135 to 140...shows 160 mph...I don't like it even that fast...even for only a few seconds.

But the published 0-60 on this bike is less than 3 seconds. I read where some "yahoo" turned a sub 11 sec. 1/4 mile on a bone stock ZL1000. I doubt I could do that...not a good enough pilot. But to answer your question ...it is almost scary fast (quick).

                            Response from Tkat

That's weird that he won't respond.Another guy here in St. Louis got one last fall and had the same positive results as I did.Call information in Santa Clara and get his phone number and call him.He has been around for years,so I'm sure he hasn't gone out of business. If you wan't,you can e-mail me at nhrasg@charter.net and I will send you the message he sent me.Thanks for the information on your Eliminator. I have a friend at work that has a 900 Eliminator that he bought new in the mid eighties and initially he spanked my eleven pretty good,so good I bought an FJ and spanked him.I parked the eleven and didn't mess with it again untill 96.I've gone through it twice since and have a pile of money in the thing and lots of very trick parts however I can dust him now about like what he was doing to me in the beginning.I always loved the look of the 1000 Eliminator,I could never understand why Kawasaki didn't put that killer 1100 Ninja motor with some mild cams in it.Boy,what a cool bike that would have been.I have a V-Max now and ride it the most and even though those alphabet bikes are quicker I would not swap, plus I have been to California on the Max and not many R-1 riders can say that.Good luck.Dan

I ran out of time on that last post and was unable to tell you that I looked at the pictures of your bikes. The XJ is stunning to say the least and the XS isn't far behind, but they are loaded with touring goodies and way to heavy to hot dog around. But then again that XJ is totally cool,so who cares how fast it is anyway,it will still beat a Harley or Gold Wing or one of those goofy metric cruisers.Personally though I like the looks of the Eliminator best.It kinda favors my Eleven and my V-Max.They are all black and bad to the bone.
