  • Performance CDI?

Anybody ever use a "performance" CDI?

ERD out of New Zealand makes these PowerPaks that replace the stock CDI. They reportedly make hotter spark and better use of power supplied from the stator/rotor while employing and advanced timing curve.

here a link to one of their eBay sales:

Here's a link to their web:

Also........whats the diff between a TCI and CDI....and what do the XS/XJ 11 employ? I know CDI is capacitor based and TCI is transistor based but what exactly does it mean.

OK, I'll give this explaination a try, i hope I'm clear.

A CDI or Capacitive Discharge Ignition discharges a capacitor across the plug for a fat, hot, quick spark. The CDI spark is too quick for a 4-stroke engine, so usaully found on 2-strokes. Remember, 2-strokes need a spark at every TDC pass of the piston so quicker is better.

A TCI or Transistor Controlled Ignition works similar to a points system, except the transistors control the coils. Good for 4-strokes because coils provide a long duration spark.

      So............

      I guess the XS11 and XJ11 has a TCI?
