the EFI post is so long its dead. So, I wil re-ask a question. The spacing between barrels for the different gxsr TB looks different from some years to others. Is there a specific year/size that is compatible with the 81xs11? Or, do you have to change it on your own? I am really interested and I have already let a couple sets go on Ebay, because of this question.

I for one am not ignoring the question. I simply don't know. However it would be interesting to know hoe it would work on an XS11. I guess it would put a stop to the constant jetting and re-jetting of carbs.........no?

      ME too!

I have three different xs11s nd would also like some help in this area. Given that a shop wants $300 to rebuild what you have, alternative fuel setups that are updated seems to be tht way to go...

My EFI project is in full swing now. For more info, see a thread I have going here, Stan's EFI project web site, or hang tight for a while as I will soon begin a write-up on my progress and issues.

Good luck with the FI project, you might find some further information from my thread HERE on the UK site.

My setup is all complete it's just waiting for the rest of the bike to catch up!

About the spacing.. Our XS's use 80-80-80.

Most people use GSXR600 K1 to K3 throttle bodies, 2000-2003. These are individual TBs which can be re-ordered and respaced.

Co-incidentally both Stan and I ended up with GSXR600 K4 2004 throttle bodies (I believe K5, 2005 are the same). These are two pairs, joined in the middle and the spacing on these is 75-80-75. The still fit with a bit of grunting and heat on the inlet rubbers. I fitted mine throttle rail down and Stan the other way up.

The BIG advantage of using the 2004 (2005) versions is that they have a plastic fuel rail with an outlet which can be rotated to one of six positions. This means that you don't need to fab up a new fuel rail, just plug and play!

I got a lot of info in the early days by following a few threads on the Honda CBR1100 forum. Anyone interested in fitting FI would do well to read both of these threads as it gives a good idea of what is needed etc..

          HERE and HERE.

Here is a picture of the 2004 Throttle Bodies fitted and with the fuel rail rotated..

Wow...it's great to see a few other folks adding EFI to their XS and XJ1100's. I just got my second project bike running last weekend, an '80 XS1100 Midnight Special with EFI. I can't wait to show it off...I installed an XJ1100 gas tank and seat on the XS frame to extend it's range. I also added a Windjammer IV fairing. And Yes, I did some welding, adding some brackets etc, it looks great. However, Shappers engine and frame, TB's, etc. look FANTASTIC; like they're brand new.

I also had to use a little force to slip on the GSXR600 TB's. As a matter of fact, I removed the two outside intake manifold boots and slipped them on the TB's first, and then re-attached them to the head. This seem the easiest approach since I was replacing everything with new intake boots.

I guess I'll update my website with the new project.

Good luck on EFI'ing your MC's. If you have any question's, I'm still around; send me a note.

Some folks seem more interested in this than others, but I recently traded some info with a guy on the MS forum that plans to try and utilize the secondary butterflies on the TB's. I hope he gets it worked out. I think it would be a valuable feature for making some extra power in the lower rpm.

a while back I was considering a similar project and its still waiting for a "round-tuit" but when I was researching I found a sticky, in one of the Mega Squirt forums listing the intake spacing of a bunch of different bikes as well as some other important details, then all you'd need to do is measure your spacing and see whats close.

I think this would be very hard to implement as megasquirt doesn't control these types of secondary butterflies.

If you are keen to explore this area though I might offer a solution. If you use the R6 throttle bodies they have built in CV devices. You would get the best of both worlds and nothing to configure on the secondaries!

I have seen this setup used on two strokes and other twin cylinder bikes to smooth out the fuel delivery.

I think they are an extra complication that you don't need though. IMHO, instead of finding a decent fuel map that works in all loads, rpm, conditions etc. the easiest way to implement FI is to install a Wideband Lambda sensor, setup the megasquirt to run closed loop, set up an AFR target map and the fuelling will sort itself out as you drive!

Oh my! The way you say it, that sounds easier than syncing and color tuning a set of stock carbs!

That's the plan, as I already have the WB O2 in place.

Thanks Mike, you have now joined the ranks of 99% of the responses you get on the MS forum. Anyone who has spent any time there can tell you that every time you ask a question, someone chimes in with 'read the manual.' I am always like, 'great, thanks a lot. I will go back and re-read all 4 zillion pages!" It makes you greatly appreciate this place where even the 4 zillionth time it's been asked, people are still willing to tell you what tire they run, what oil they prefer, and what size jetting you should be running.
