  • Wiseco st on Ebay

I am sure others saw this. There is a guy who parted out a bike. Says it has a 1150 kit. He is selling the kit and jugs as a set.

A question I had is, aren't the jugs machined by the factory to fit the head? If you buy these and try to put your head on it, is't there a good chance of a leak?

Is it safe to buy and try?

I am still dealing with ring compression loss on my ride and I know eventually I am looking at a ring job. I was just wondering if this is a safe way through it since the jugs are already been done to fit the rings.wiseco kit

I'm no expert on these kits but if I remeber them correctly, what you see is what came with the kit; cyclinders and matching fitted pistons & rings. I don't think that they ever came with matched heads.

The only concern I have with buying a used kit would be that you should hone the cyclinders to clean them up, then install new rings. Since these had custom pistons, where do you buy rings for them these days?

Perhaps one of our forum members have installed one of these kits on their bikes and can answer your questions better.

From all the guys I've talked about a Wiseco for the XS...it's an overbore kit. You bore your jugs over and replaced the stocks pistons with Wiseco high compression pistons.

I assume the kit comes with domed pistons, rings and wrist pins. And they ain't cheap. Direct from Wiseco the kit is about $450 and from a dealer it will be nearer $700.

What a lot of folks don't calculate in the cost is the machine work to bore the cylinders out. But I hear it's a real HOOT! Takes the XS11 to XS12! (1198 cc)...resulting in XSive HP output.

        two kits

i did not see the ebay item but i would be leary, the two big bores i know of are 1176 or 1179,the other one is 1196 cc. Not heard of a 1150cc.one of the big bore guys can chime in here. A long while ago i heard rumor of 1340 kit but that was just rumor.Usaly shoot for the first big kit so when and if it goes south you can still rebuild your motor one more time.

I have the 1179cc Big Bore, and from what I understand from Wiseco's web site is the only other size is 1196cc.I also saw that 1150 kit and wondered about it. The only machine work necessary will be having the cylinder bored to match each piston, as the pistons may vary in size by a few ten thousands. You may want to lap the valves while you have the head off, and while you're right there, change the valve seals. They come with the gasket set. I paid $350 for the kit, which included pistons, rings, wrist pins and circlips. The machine work cost me $150. A new clutch and springs was another C note. A gasket set and cam chain, another hundred. In order to get the new found horses to the back tire, and not bouncing around iside the crankcase I had the trans gears machined... $60, and the egine paint was $24. Before I knew it, I was up to $900 in no time.

Actually John, For all the work I don't think $900 was unreasonable. Did you do all the work except the boring out and this was all parts cost?

                Thumper,
That was just the cost of machine work, and parts. I did all of the assembly myself. If you follow the webshots link in my signature, (cut n paste) you'll be able to see some of the rebuild process.
also, there have been some first over size rings on ebay lately. I bought a set a few weeks ago, and I have seen some more recently.
                Chevy,
I have had an oil cooler, or three, on the bike since I bought it. I can't imagine riding around here in the summertime without one.

Three different ones at that! Now that's XSivley cooool!
Actually ther ewas one on it when I bought it. It was plumbed into the oil pipe on the back side ofthe cylinders. The second was one from an 850 Special, and my most recent is a Lockhart unit. I put that one on when I did the big bore last year.

                        Hey Jim,

Thanks for rhe information, I got mine(1179cc) in 2000, so we know that this alleged kit of 1150cc is at least now 5 years old, if not much older depending on when Wiseco stopped production of that size!
