Erldrums, I hope that you get your answers, and I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I am curious about your decision to switch to the air shocks.
I also have a set of air shocks that I have been thinking about putting on my 80 Special. (I saw in your profile that that is also your application)
What do you see as the pros/cons in this swap?
I was wondering if it might be a way to lower the seat height a little, without significantly sacraficing the rear suspension.
I will watch to see what reccommendations the others have for you.Mike

i have air shocks on my fj, they are ok, the simple reason i'm putting them on my special is , they were a] cheap!, and b] my spring shocks are rusty as hell and look crap!!..the air shocks don't really lower the seat hight as such, you just get a bit more variation in dampening with the air. Guess i will have to drain my good ones to find out whats in them oil wise,..!!

air shocks
The oil level in the XJ air shocks should be 75 mm (2.95") and the recomended oil is G-5 (SAE 5W).
Use a caliper to measure the depth down to the oil
