Just wondering why whenever I see Dunlop tires mentioned for our bikes, it's always the 491 elite series. I got some 404's, which seem fine for about half what the 491's cost. Any major differences?

The 491 Elite II's ARE STILL AVAILABLE. They are newer technology for Sport/Tour/Cruiser type applications! The 404's are designed for the OLDER bikes, similar tread pattern, per Dunlops website, they are the more economical version. Both have the same SPEED rating, H=130mph, and similar weigth ratings. They probably won't last quite as long as the 491's, but then again??

I went with the GT501 tire last year and have put about 2k miles on them. The back cost me about 120 at the dealer lus around 30 bucks for the mount and balance. So far i think it grips alot better than the 491, but my 491 looked almost like a slick Plus the 501 is V rated for up to 149mph
