          No problem, Gareth.

Just a joke, thanks for the plug. Actually I have been offering the TCI repair to XS11.com forum members for FREE for about a year now. So far, I've done about 3 dozen for us, so i figured I'd see how many 'outsiders" were out there that might need it and make them pay!

Believe it or not, I've only gotten one order even though I've listed it three time so far since Xmas.

mmmm??? would be great for you to see how many excessives

            were outside this forum .

            Everyone seems to be breaking

these bikes on ebay (stripping for parts) i havent come across

a complete non runner for sale at reasonable price in 12

            months of looking!!!(in England).

I know its nice to help people

and everything ,but come on something like that got to be

worth even $20.00 between friends ,to me your still saving

em $70.00 even then!!! nice to keep parts original to the bike

as well ,always feel humble ,losing a part or swapping it!!!

Oh well it's your choice on the fix ,everyone should benefit

from thier knowledge somewhere and i say good luck to you

(is it only xs ones ??? honda cbx 750 ???? etc ,etc )

So far I've only done XS's TCI's because long ago my 81H box was acting up on me and I couldn't get a repalcement so I repaired it myself. Those were the days before e-bay!

I suppose I could tackle other TCI's, but with the XS, I have all the other parts that go with the TCI already mocked-up. With others, I wouldn't have anything to help troubleshoot it (like pickup & coils) and no schematic or wiring pinout.

With the setup I've got now, all I do is plug in the TCI and turn on the system. It's got a motor-driven pickup/rotor assembly, ballast, coils and plugs. Makes repairs a snap. Sure beats pulling my seat and runnin 'em on the Swamp thing!

Let me know if you've got one you need looked at, we'll work something out.

                Randy,

You know what would be neat. An extension wire kit that would extend out the current plug so you easily could relocate the TCI. Is that something you could do?

Sure, it can be done, anything can be done but why would you want to relocate the TCI?

                  BTW, Gaffer,

What is the meaning of the term Gaffer?

Gaffer was my nick name from school (kind of attatched to it)

came out of Gareth and the fact i used to watch a programme

called THE GAFFER !!! it was an old'ish guy some sort of failing

buisness bloke think a garage or petrol station ,(i was only 5 !!)

anyway at the start you see him get into a wreck of a ROVER

P6 liked those bak then ,and he always parked up and got

a parking ticket and just tossed it on the back seat with the

other hundred he already got and never paid ,sort of

inspired me (his lapse attitude ,thort he was cool !!!)

i pay my bills etc now ,but just thort it was wacky the way

                    he was !!!!

p.s my tci is fine but had and know others who had trouble

just interested you know ,like to know stuff

i love the name swamp thing and the story behind it Randy

that is cool too ,kind of special!!!

                      tci extension wire harness

Randy, one reason I can think of... I'd like to position my saddle bags further back (They currently sit atop the rear pegs), but I don't want the leather harness riding on top of the TCI, so I'd like to reposition it. I'm not asking to have an extension built, but just to explain a reason why I might make one in the future.

                        Hey Prometheus,

I had a set of soft bags with a large strap that would otherwise ride atop the TCI on my 81SH. Well, I unbolted the rear nut/bolt combo, and cut a small hole in the strap, ran the strap UNDER the TCI, the bolt thru the strap, and then rebolted the TCI back onto the fender. The TCI doesn't ground thru the mounting bolts, so having the strap under it had no ill effects. Just an idea for ya!?

I never did it but I looked at relocating the TCI on my 79 Special. It looks like it would go in where the tool box is without extending the wire. Of course you would lose the tool box. I carry the tools I want in a case I have mounted on the grab bar. I was going to move it so that I could lower the back of the seat.

                          Just a thought,

One reason is because the seatpan I have I believe is from a special. This causes a lot of stress to be pushed down on the TCI.

I was able to move it to under the side cover on the fuse box side. It runs OK but I would like to locate it further back. I am able to put it on the fuse box side because I haven't a fuse panel.

I had no fuse panel when I bought the bike so put in line fuses there which leave me quite a bit of room there.
