  • How many Midnights Out There

I just read on a book that only 250 Midnight Specials were manufactured in 1981, does somebody know something about this.

Well, if it is like that i got one of those 250 , and will need your help and advice to get it restored.

I'm not sure how many midnights were produced for your year but I do know that you are in the right place to get just about any info you need to put your bike together in just about any way you want. If you can't find the answers to your questions by useing the search features, Just ask. I'm sure that someone will chime in with an answer. Welcome aboard. How is the riding in Mexico? Are you inland or more toward the coast? Just curious. I might take a bike ride down that way when I eventually take my ride around the US. As I said, Eventually. That's kinda a dream I need to fullfill before I die.

          Paging the great "Dragonrider",
I was wondering if this is a picture of your bike ? If so, it's almost an exact "twin" of mine. I just bought the Mac exhaust system for my bike and an '80 Standard with 14,000 miles on it. The drive train in mine has 160,000 miles on it. Time for a switcheroo !!! My bike will remain mostly black. When I'm done rebuilding, I may post pictures of it's finished state.

              Hey gerkenbruce . . .

That WAS my bike. I bought her when she was nearly scrap and restored her to what you see there. It was a riding restoration and I put about 35,000 miles on her during the those two years, including trips out west and such.

About the time I finished the last detail, I bought a brand new Valkyrie . . . my first new machine. Sold "Well Oiled Machine" to a co-worker, who has since moved on to a new 'wing and sold her to a friend . . . thus she is still around and I still get to see her (and probably fix her too if anything ever goes wrong . . .)

                Hi Dragonrider,
Well, being that you ride a Valkyrie, what should be a very nice long distance bike, maybe you'd consider the rally I'm hosting 4th of July weekend, here in Bainbridge, NY.
It would be really nice to see some of our Texan buddies. :-)

                    Hey gerkenbruce!

The Valkyrie is a GREAT distance bike. Took her to Alaska last summer . . . man and machine tested to the limits.

It was a great trip....10, 158 miles, incredible thunderstorms, raging forest fires, dense smoke, hail, sleet, cops, a half-a-dozen paramedics, bears, and even a dragon or two...you know...the usual stuff.

                    Details here: Alaska 2004

Rally huh? Details? (must have missed the link).

Haven't decided were I'm headed this summer . . . I am pressed to keep expenses down (Alaska, while not expensive, was not cheap either).

"Expenses down" for me usually means LOTS of miles to interesting places, with cheap hotels and camping strewn randomly about . . .
