  • XJ Cyl. bolts discontinued!?

My XJ's engine is apart (yeah, yeah, smarty-pants - a whole BUNCH of parts).
She looks pretty good for being 23 years old, but has a few problems. When putting her back together, I'm replacing all of the seals, gaskets, and whatnot. I can find most everything, but some of the Cylinder hold-down bolts are pretty rusty on the bottom portion. I'd like to replace them, but Yamaha parts dealers say that they're discontinued. What'll I do?
From the Yamaha Crankcase microfiche, I've included their fiche number, part number, description, and quantity needed below.

    #7 90116-10273-00 BOLT, STUD - I need 1
    #8 2F3-11363-00-00 BOLT, CYLINDER HOLDING 3 - I need 2
    #9 90116-10275-00 BOLT, STUD - I need 2

Whaddya think, folks? Are new ones (or appropriate replacements) available?
    Thanks very much,

    Hey Rick,

I checked both Bike Bandit, and Cycle-Parts.com, and both list the parts as Discontinued!!

However, on Bike Bandit, they provided the dimensions for those studs:
    7: DISCONTINUED
    (M10-154L) [BOLT,STUD] 344274-001
    $999.99
    8: DISCONTINUED
    (M10-154L) [BOLT,CYL HOLDING 3] 21354-001
    $999.99
    9: DISCONTINUED
    (M10-184L) [BOLT,STUD]

I would think you could possibly find a similar item from machine shop supply type catalogs. I have checked in my catalog for
    www.mscdirect.com

Item # 82508284 are Metric 10/ 1.5mm thread pitch studs at 155mm long with 35mm lenght threaded ends, rated at 125,000 psi tensile strength, they are about $2.06 EACH, and you can buy them in single pieces, but that is as long as they come in INDIVIDUAL pieces.

Item # 06949218 is similar strength M10/1.5 pitch, and are 200mm long, with 35mm threaded ends, but you have to buy a box of 25, at $1.99 ea, will run you $50.00, but you'll have plenty!! Hope this helps, and gives you some hope!?

You can go to that web site and search those numbers, my catalog is a couple of years old, but hopefully they'll still have those items, or search Stud, Metric!?

      Happy Birthday, TopCat!

... and thanks for the leads.
      I'll check 'em out ASAP.
      Anyone else have suggestions, too?

      TopCat, does that mean 1958?

        Hey Rick,

You're welcome, hope you're able to get things to work. And, yes, the 58 in my handle is 1958, as John says, not pushing 50, but getting sucked in!!!!

          Hey, 50 ain't so bad, ...

... but I'm heading for 51 in March and I still feel like, oh, maybe 40!?
(Geez, I'm not supposed to have tools that I've had for 30 years!!!)

Again, thanks for the kind assistance (and to all of you out there),

            cyl head studs

            Rick,

Like you, I have my XJ1100 completely tore down, and am looking for the two studs Part # 2F3-11363-00-00. Other than MSC, with their $25.00 minimum order, I have not been able to find any,
I wonder if anyone here would know if a grade 8 all thread would substitute? I could always chuck it in the lathe and remove the threads from the center section if necessary.
I have also found some 150mm long for under $3.00 with no min. quanity that I believe would work.
