  • XJ shocks on an XS

Just for the fun of it and to satisfy my curiosity. I took the rear air shocks ( filled with oil ) off of the XJ I bought last year and fit them to MIYAMI. They do fit but I had to reroute the cross over line because the seat was smashing it. I also had to remove a little of the shock eye base because the shock mount bolt would not line up. So far It looks like it will work. I find out over time. Does anyone have an extra rubber boot layin around they would want to part with? The boot goes on the base part of the shock.

I have XJ shocks on my bike, have for 3-4 years now. The only problem I had was I had to remove the helmet lock, in order for the hose to clear, but once everything was mounted and tightened, I was able to reinstall the lock, but I can't 'lock' it closed anymore. I didn't have any problems with the shock eye base. I was going to press the lower grommets out of the shocks and swap them to the opposite sides so I could put the right shock on the left side and vise versa, so that way the air hose would be on the rear of the shock but that didn't quite work. I really the set up. I run about 55 lbs of air pressure in them.

Good grief....I only run 24 psi when riding solo and 28 psi when pulling the trailer. Manual states max pressure 57 psi in the rear shocks, nominal is 14 psi....and I weigh 260 lbs....maybe I just like a softer ride....

        Shock pressure

Jerry, IIRC, you're the guy that told me what pressures to run, when I did the switch. Maybe I didn't read it correctly. I guess I'd better check the pressures...

          Sorry Jerry

Now that I have engaged the brain before the fingers, I realize that it wasn't you that told me what pressures to run. Sorry 'bout that.

Is there supposed to be any oil in these air shocks? Kinda like the air over oil in the forks. The fork oil that I use is 10 wt. The oil in theses XJ shocks look to be about 30 wt or better. I don't have a manual for the XJ. I havn't made up my mind yet whether or not I want to keep it.

              XJ Shocks replaced-one leaked

I replaced mine with some nice Progressive 14-series shocks.
Where can one find the parts to "kit" them?
(or maybe I just don't need them any more and someone else can make an offer ...)

                XJ Shocks replaced-one leaked

Does anyone know where can I find the instructions, replacement seals, and other necessary parts to fix the original XJ struts?

(That's what I meant, in my previous posting, when I said, "Where can one find the parts to "kit" them?")

                  Boots for air shocks

Anyone know where to find Boots for Air shocks off of an XJ?
Other than ebay and hold your breath. I need one or could use two. New or used.
                  Thanks Dan
