  • Painting the exhaust problems

    Hi guys
I need to paint my exhaust, but it's that "black chrome" type. Does any of you have experiences dealing with this?

I was just was checking www.caswellplating.com and saw a "black chrome" kit. It might be worth looking in to.

My experience with Caswell's plating kits.

Last year a buddy and I thought it would be cool to get into chroming. We looked at the Caswell's kits and decided to start out small and see where it goes.

We paid around $500 for the starter kit. It took us another $500 to scrape together enough stuff to actually get the kit working. It took us about a week to get the kit setup. We spent the next month attempting to get the process down. We eventually successfully produced some small chrome parts, like the choke lever of a Standard. It became clear that we would have to spend at least another $1,000 in power supplies to be able plate something like an XS case cover. Eventually our plating solution became contaminated (our fault) and we abandoned the project.

We learned that the platting process is complicated, time consuming and involved hazardous materials. It was great experience; I learned a lot and got a chrome Standard choke lever all for $500.

The only complaint I have with the Caswell kit is that the documentation is very poor. If a person is new to the plating process, the instructions are very confusing and sometime contradictory.
