  • Dremel fix interesting find!

This is driving me crazy! I just buttoned everything up from doing a dremel fix on first and second, and I need a new air filter and a new gasket for the oil pan. I found the air filter part number and I think I'll need a new one-- do you think this will affect performance? (check out the attached photo if it comes across).

But for the life of me I cannot find the part number for the gasket that goes on the oil pan on the microfiche anywhere! What is it? And if you please, WHERE is it on the microfiche?

Thanks-- I'll let you know how the dremel fix works out once I get a gasket-

You need to look on the oil cleaner page of the microfiche.

I actually bought gasket material to make my own, but I couldn't get the stuff that was screwed into the oil pan off with a phillips screwdriver, so I didn't think I could trace a gasket out to make my own. Do you think I can make one without getting those off?

Now that you've shown me where the diagram is, the stuff I couldn't get off without doing more damage than good were the two plates, 12 and 13 on the diagram. Without getting them off, you can't trace around the oil pan onto the gasket material, as they stick up too high to lay the oil pan down on the material to trace it. As I've still not ordered a new gasket, if you think I could gut one without being able to trace it (the gasket that was there was trashed and is of no help), I'm all ears!

The plates are held on with phillips head screws and yes, those can be a real pain to get loose with just a screwdriver. You'll want to give them a crack with an impact screwdriver and you'll be set. I use an Ultrapro, but there are lots of others on the market. This should be considered a must-have tool if you own a Japanese motorcycle.

I did not use the pan gasket, I used YamaBond #4. I have used this in place of the case side cover also. When I rebuilt my Yamaha dirt bike, the dealer told me that the gasket where no longer available and to use YamaBond #4. So, I use in on al my bikes.

              Yeah...what he said.

My indy mechanic recently had to split the case on a bike to repair something. When he put it back together he used Yamabond and it was a Harley he was working on. He told me he usually does't bother with gaskets (except heads etc) and simply uses Yamabond.

However I dunno if a pan gasket would seal.

Thanks for the tips. I'm getting an impact screw driver AND some yamabond4.
