hey everyone, i was looking on ebay the other day and got a few ideas. First of which is the charging system... i was wondering if it was possible to replace the XS/XJs Regulator/Rectifier with one off of a GM 60 Amp Alternator, it would probably be pretty reliable... let me know what your thoughts are about this. Also do any of you know if a tach/speedo from a R1 or R6 would work on our engine, i know the speedo needs to be wired - its VSS (vehicle speed sensor) driven not cable. Thanks for all of your insight.

Thats right i remeber you saying something about that randy.. i was diagnosing a older gm alternator in auto serv. tech class the other day, thats why i was looking on ebay. It looks like you could just hook up the three wires and the regualtor and be done with it. but i'm sure theres more to it.... Thanks!------------------------------------

Just put a pully on the drive shaft and run the whole GM alternator/regulator off that.
Sure the bike will be running off the battery while stopped but will charge quickly and run anything once underway.

If you don't want to hook up a pulley on the drive shaft you could rig up some kind of deal like they use on bicycles. You know that little generator thingy that rubs up against the side of the tire. I bet 10 or 15 of those would probally work. Just take the letters of the sidewalls.78E ... Gone but not forgotten
