    Paint code for "new ruby red"

    Hi Group:
    I am wanting to repaint my 1980 Special from "black red" to the other stock color that year "new ruby red".

    If you happen to have a source for the paint codes for "new ruby red", I would very much appreciate hearing from you.

    Or, if you happened to have an old "ruby red" side cover I could borrow for matching, that would be great.

    Hey Dan,

    My '80 SG was that same original color, New Ruby Red, but was repainted several years ago. I would also like to revert to the original. I found this site below that can match OEM colors. Unfortunately, they only show colors for Yamaha back to 1988. So, I filled out the query form, asking about the availabiltiy of this color. I'll let you know what they say.

    PS. They claim to be able to match colors with a sample, if you can find one.

      I did receive a reply from Cycle Color, and they have that paint. I sent you an e-mail with a copy of their response. They attached a picture of a bike in New Ruby Red, which I can forward to you.

            For Black Red (BLR), code is: 002J

            Apply to XS 1100 SG (3J6) & (3U9) Canada

              Where does one see the "Yamaha Bible"
              I have just had a prang and the tank and side cover was quoted $793 to repair and paint but the colour New Ruby Red or Ruby Red does not show up on the repairers codes and the Yam dealer here is not sure about the colour

                  I went to Yamaha here and they told me the paint colour codes do not mean they have the paint it is to identify the part eg the Tank. You just have to hope the paint supplier can look at it and come up with a colour to match.
