OMG, I can't believe how long ago I started this winter project!

SWMBO and I have been talking for quite a while about what to do for paint on the tank and sidecovers. With the entire rest of the bike being done in satin black powdercoat or satin black paint, we were thinking about something along the same lines, but not just straight black. The tank I have for it is in very good shape, still in its original '81 black with a very subtle blue metalflake. The PO lost or just took off the tank emblems and put on some very ugly yellow vinyl decals with some even uglier red striping.

We're thinking now of starting with a very dark blue colour, adding a raindrop effect added in silver, coating over that with a light dusting of the blue again, then clearing over it all.

The colour we're leaning towards would be like this:

The next couple of shots are a test I did this week of the raindrop effect, just to see how the technique works:

I've learned I need to go quite a bit lighter with the silver in the airbrush, keep to a low angle when spraying the drops, and to stick to just a bit smaller drop size. Also, the decals have to go!

That looks like an interesting idea Ken.................but riding right now would be way more fun..............even to go have pie...........just jokin Ken. You sure seem to come up with some interesting concepts though.

Hi Ken, good to see that those retirement hours are being put to good use!
This Midnight is going to look so puurrrty when done you will not want to ride it and get it dirty. I can see it going on display in the living room. Even then it will require a see through dust cover. You will want to float that idea past Sheila?
Take care, maybe see you around Aug 7-8. Three of us off the island are headed for Nakusp for the Horizon Unlimited rally. Will be in your neighborhood.
          Keep that right hand cranked.
