  • rear brake pads wont come off

Hi all. I took the caliper off the disk, and took out the screw that holds the pads in. My Clymer says "remove the pads and shims".

well the pads wont come out, and i don't see any shims. even with the screw you, the pads won't squeeze together enough to slide out.

before i break something, is there some trick i should know? maybe someone could give me a hint about where this shim is? i changed the front pads with almost no problem at all.

    thanks.

    Hey Brock,

Sounds like you need to open up the bleeder screw, and then put a C-clamp on the pads and the piston body, and compress the piston into the cylinder chamber, then you should have enough room to remove the pads!? The shims are just very thin strips of metal against the back of the pads for vibration/noise reduction!

You said you removed the screw, I hope it's the one on the top, that runs thru the middle of the pad on the top, there is a hole in the pad base that the screw fits into to!
